Suggestions For Your Stay at The MRL House In London
Our journey to the Montcalm Royal London House was smooth and uneventful as we used the hotel’s airport transfer service. The reception area was large, and the ambience was welcoming, with plenty of staff available.
Our first port of call after checking into our 5-star, well-appointed room was a well-anticipated drink on the Aviary rooftop terrace. It was a nice way to relax after our journey, checking out the London skyline while sipping a ‘Cherry Bomb’ cocktail recommended by the hotel’s mixologist.

We then decided to take a dip in the hotel’s indoor pool before getting ready to dine in the bubble dome of the Avery restaurant—a thoroughly indulgent experience with great views complemented by fine dining and some lovely wine. A pleasant stroll through Finsbury Gardens nicely ended our evening.
We found the hotel staff extremely helpful in answering questions and giving us directions on how to get to the various places we wanted to see. We had not booked a breakfast-included package, but reception easily sorted this for us. We opted for the buffet breakfast, although the Avery also does an à la carte. The view was more like a watercolour that morning, very misty but enjoyable all the same—perfect way to start our busy day. We ended the day chilling in the busy ground-floor Burdock Bar and Restaurant, a vibrant space featuring an excellent cocktail list, and we had to try a glass of chilled craft beer brewed onsite—a unique experience in London, hence its popularity.
We also indulged in a bit of ‘me time’ as we wanted to relax and recharge. We knew we were in the right place to achieve that when we booked into the hotel’s YĀTRĀ spa and wellness. It was so worth it. We didn’t use the gym; the sparkling, high-tech equipment was a bit intimidating for us non-gym users. But the trainers there showed us around and promised to be kind if we decided to have a go. However, even we, who are not familiar with gyms, discovered that it is a very well-equipped gym. And following the norm for the Montcalm Royal London, the staff were well-mannered, informed, and friendly.
Some Hidden Gems To Visit While In London
We love markets, fresh produce, especially cheeses, artisan breads and just the general friendly ambience of such events. We didn’t miss the opportunity to visit the Finsbury Farmer’s Market or Stroud Green Market, which is open from 10 am to 2:30 pm every Sunday. It is well worth a visit, bustling and fascinating with local and international produce. We indulged in some handmade pastries from Sara Nyborg’s Rye Bread & Cinnamon Bun.
If you like the markets on any day, you can take a meander around Spitalfields Market or head over to Petticoat Lane. Transport around the city is so easy, with over five tube stations within half a mile of the Montcalm Royal London House.

Another venue we had heard of was the Flight Club in Shoreditch. We made a booking before our visit on the advice of friends, and we are glad we did, as it is a very popular venue. Only a three-minute walk from the hotel, we had a very entertaining, fun night, absorbing the British pub atmosphere while learning to play social darts.
Before heading back home, we stopped for coffee at Blighty Coffee and felt it was worth a mention. There we had an orancino—a cappuccino with orange rind. This 1940s-themed café serves international cuisine, offers delicious coffee, and has a vibrant atmosphere, well worth adding to your places to visit list, especially if you like coffee with a twist. That said, the area has a lively café life with plenty to experience.
