Even for the most well-travelled, just thinking about staying at the London Ritz is exciting. The history, elegance, glamour, and unadulterated luxury of The Ritz are extraordinary; you just know you’re going to have the best experience walking in the footsteps of royalty, dignitaries and the social elite.
Since César Ritz opened the doors to the hotel in 1906, luxury has had a new standard, creating a blueprint that remains in place for today’s guests. The Ritz is all about sparkling chandeliers and white-gloved servers, where every guest is treated like royalty, and every visit feels special.
Whilst tradition and style are the hallmarks of a stay at The Ritz, the hotel meets all the demands of a modern traveller without detracting from this extraordinary experience.
Welcome to The Ritz London
As you walk through the impressive doors to The Ritz, opened by the uniformed concierges, that feeling of being somewhere special is palpable. After all, this hotel has been and remains a global symbol of luxury and refinement since it opened.
Walking into the palatial gold and marble foyer with its glistening chandeliers and beautiful floral arrangements is awe-inspiring. People adhering to The Ritz’s dress code add to the slightly surreal feeling of being on a glamorous film set, yet the feeling of being welcome is unmistakable.
The guest service is attentive, quiet, even. The staff give the impression they are there just for you. Despite the glamour and luxurious ambience, the hotel is efficient and offers all you would expect from a modern venue catering to both business and leisure visitors.

Initially owned by King Edward I, Mayfair is synonymous with exclusivity, with grand homes for the landed gentry and London’s elite. The Ritz, overlooking the lovely Green Park, fits right in here.
The area is sophisticated, with a rich heritage and culture. It is also a prestigious location featuring embassies, private clubs, and historic arcades.
You do not have to walk far from The Ritz to find the world-famous Bond Street boutiques or the vibrant West End theatre scene. For art lovers, a visit to the Royal Academy is a must.
When you start to feel a little thirsty or a little peckish, there are numerous pubs, cafes and restaurants to suit everyone’s taste.
Staying at The Ritz allows you access to central London with all its hustle and bustle, yet Mayfair remains a serene area with a calm rhythm, just moving at its own pace. It’s a graceful area where you can take the time to explore its Georgian architecture and its charming mews.

Suggestions For Your Stay at The Ritz Mayfair
A chance to stay at The Ritz and write a review, who could refuse such an offer? Certainly not me, and I’ve got to take along my fiancé. The views and opinions are from both of us.
Fortunately for us, we knew in advance about The Ritz dress code, so we left behind our comfy travelling jeans for more appropriate attire. We would have stuck out like sore thumbs in our well-worn normal travelling wear and trainers. So, please take note if your style is more casual than smart.
Eating at The Ritz is a time-honoured tradition for visitors to London, never mind when staying as guests. So, once we settled into our spacious, sumptuous room, we headed for afternoon tea.

Visiting the dramatically designed Palm Court for the quintessential British afternoon tea is a delightful experience. From the golden trellis to the fabulous bird cages, you can easily imagine a time gone by while thoroughly enjoying the dainty sandwiches and delicious cakes. And, as an extra treat for us, a bottle of champagne completed the ambience. And, of course, scones, jam and cream. In what order do you layer, jam or cream first?
The Ritz has two Michelin-starred restaurants providing a sophisticated and elegant dining experience, whichever one you choose. We chose dinner in The Ritz Restaurant, not the night after afternoon tea, too full from that. The meals were spectacular, as were the other diners. Did we see a celebrity? Our lips are sealed.
The restaurant offers à la carte and tasting menus of five and seven courses. Our choice was the five-course taster menu; my favourite dish was the Cornish Sea Bass. You can also choose to have the four-course Arts de la Table menu, showcasing seasonal local delicacies.
The second Ritz restaurant, The Ritz Room, is a luxurious semi-private dining area with bespoke menus and personalised service.
We ended our evening in the opulently Art Deco-themed Rivoli Bar, enjoying the gold-gilded ceilings, Lalique glass panels, and a cocktail crafted from the Biodynamic Forces menu, where nature and alcohol combine.
When you’re out and about in Mayfair and need a break for sightseeing or shopping, our favourite coffee spot is Kiss The Hippo Coffee; check out their latte art!
You can also find numerous Michelin-starred restaurants in Mayfair. Try out the Hakkasan Mayfair with its Michelin-starred Chinese cuisine and awe-inspiring cocktails. A great pub to visit is The Guinea Grill, which is one of the oldest pubs in London; local history says there has been a pub on the site since the 1400s. It also has a doorman wearing a top hat and tails! They serve Young’s and Guinness, along with some craft beers.
Some Hidden Gems in Mayfair
We didn’t try this because it was raining, but my sister assures me that on a sunny day, visiting the Mount Street Deli is an excellent idea for a delicious gourmet picnic hamper to enjoy in Green Park.
If you are visiting in the summer, you should not miss the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. However, any time of year is a good opportunity to visit and see some of its extensive collection of paintings and sculptures, such as John Constable’s “The Leaping Horse” or J.W. Waterhouse’s “A Mermaid”.

We could not miss the chance to visit the infamous Burlington Arcade. We thoroughly enjoyed window shopping at the exclusive shops and felt a part of history surrounded by the Regency-dressed Beagles and fantastic architecture. The vaulted glass and iron ceiling is spectacular; everywhere is ornate yet elegant, not fussy. Don’t forget that whistling is banned there! Of course, once I knew this, I wanted to whistle—I didn’t.
We like bookshops; the quirkier, the better and a short ride on the Tube will bring you to Cecil Court, a narrow alley between Charing Cross Road and St Martin’s Lane, off Leicester Square. Known colloquially as Booksellers Row, it is that step back in time that London is famous for. Established in the 1670s, it has a feel like walking into Harry Potter’s Diagon Alley. Fair warning, be prepared to lose time visiting here, as we spent four and a half hours there for just a quick visit!
